The Shimano Deore XT CN-HG95 chain for Dyna-Sys 10-speed drivetrains is more efficient due to the special surface treatment, quieter, and require less maintenance. The assembly and directional tread chain provide an evolution in shifting performance. Compatible with all 2x10 and 3x10 MTB and City & Touring bikes.
Shimano pushed the shifting performance of Dyna-Sys 10-speed components by making a directional chain with four different plates -- both sides/inner and outer. It's understandable that it would seem they've reached the zenith in chain technology, but that's not how Shimano works. Instead, with the CN-HG95 XT 10-Speed Chain, they found a way to reduce friction by 60 percent between inner and outer links.
A new Sil-Tec treatment on the plates allows them the freely pivot around derailleur pulleys, cogs, and chainrings. Back to the directional aspect of Dyna-Sys chains, since the action of climbing up ramps and pins from one chainring to another is slightly different than climbing up one cog to the next, Shimano chose to shape the left and right side plates differently to optimize the plates for each specific purpose.
The resulting CN-HG95 Chain works in harmony with the 10-speed systems to provide a shift quality unrivaled by any of Shimano's previous efforts.
HG-X
The directional 10-speed HG-X chain specially designed for mountain bikes is the next evolutionary step in shifting technology. This chain shifts more fluidly saves weight and increases overall system performance. The outer side is optimized for shifting from the front by a design adapted to the tooth shape of the chainring. The inner side of the HG-X is optimized for rear derailleur shifting and ensures higher shifting performance. The sides are marked to ensure correct assembly.
Warning notice: The high shifting performance can only be reached if the chain is mounted correctly. Should the chain be installed the wrong way, the chain could derail and lead to serious injury.
Dyna-Sys
An asymmetrical mountain bike-specific chain means smoother shifts, lighter weight, and better overall system performance. CloseStep gear ratios mean smaller jumps between gears, more efficient chain movement, and a reduced chance of dropping a chain while shifting in rough conditions.
SIL-TEC
Shimano's ultra-low friction surface treatment Superior to simple coating, SIL-TEC is an advanced plating process that improves system performance through the use of embedded fluorine particles. SIL-TEC products run smoother and wear longer in all conditions.
